Meet Julio Alberto Lopez

Introduce yourself

I’m Julio Lopez, born and raised in Argentina. I began my professional life as an industrial engineer, but approximately five years ago, I developed a passion for data and digital platforms, which led me to where I am today. There’s no directly predefined career path for data engineering; it’s more of a role that blends various skills and knowledge. I’ve always had an engineering mindset and an interest in user interfaces, which naturally brought me to this path.

So, I began as a data analyst, which has always been my passion. And later on, I discovered the world of cloud computing and programming. Finally, AI caught my eye, and that’s when MbarQ entered the picture.

How would you describe yourself in one word?

  • Curious
  • Go-getter
  • Persistence

What’s your current role at MbarQ?

At MbarQ, I work as a data engineer. We handle various stages, from new projects and proof-of-concept to the exciting design phase where we brainstorm and come up with innovative ideas. What’s great about MbarQ is that they encourage creativity and have valued my input since I joined the company a few weeks ago.

MbarQ turned out to be the perfect fit for me because they appreciated my passion for data and my inquisitive nature. My technology stack is mainly Microsoft-based, which is a definite plus.

I arrived a week before my start date to settle in.  When I officially started, it was a welcoming and inclusive experience. The team made an effort to bring everyone together, and we even have a tradition called “The M-Cafe” on Thursdays, where the entire team gathers.

Importance of Generative AI

Nowadays, generative AI is incredibly important because it can help organizations make sense of datasets quickly. It can create custom models, providing insights and responses that would otherwise take weeks with traditional methods. Moreover, it can combine online data with existing datasets, making it a powerful tool for data-driven decision-making.

How was moving from Argentina to Belgium?

You can say that moving to Belgium was a significant step for my family and me. (laughs) We meticulously planned our relocation, selling our possessions in Argentina. We found it to be an adventurous experience with a smooth transition, aided by six months of preparation. We settled in Mechelen quickly, found a school for our children, and secured a home within the first week. Today, we’re still exploring our new surroundings. I’m thinking about getting back into kitesurfing, tennis, and maybe even padel. But mostly, I cherish spending time with my family.

What are your personal ambitions?

At MbarQ, I aspire to broaden my knowledge base further and contribute from a scientific and business perspective. I see myself taking on more client-facing roles and owning entire project scopes hopefully within the next year, all while continuing to be a valuable team player.

Did Julio convince you?
Then head over to our jobs and check out if your talents match our needs. 😉
